Modifier templates

Build reusable option groups (sizes, toppings, sides) your items can share.

Modifier templates capture the choices that turn a base item into what the customer ordered, size, milk type, add-ons, doneness, sides. Build each group once and attach it to as many items as you like.

Modifier templates are managed under Catalog → Modifier templates and require modifier-groups:view / modifier-groups:update permissions.

Utilizing the Template Library

A master template is defined once and reused across every item that shares that option profile. When you edit the template (add a choice, change a price, reorder options) the change cascades instantly to every item across the corporate network that uses it.

Build the group

Create a modifier group (e.g. "Milk Options") and add its choices (Whole, Skim, Oat, Almond).

Set rules and pricing

Configure whether the group is required, how choices are ordered, and any per-choice price adjustments.

Attach to items

Link the group to every relevant item. A single latte might use "Milk Options," "Size," and "Espresso Shots."

Maintain centrally

Update the template once; all linked items reflect the change immediately.

Rule Constraints for Modifiers

Each modifier group supports conditional parameters that control how it behaves at checkout:

  • Required vs. Optional: Toggle whether a cashier must select an option before the line can be added to the queue. Use "required" for choices with no sensible default (size), "optional" for true extras (add bacon).
  • Sort Ordering: Custom numerical values that control the visual position of choices on the register screen. Put the most-common choice first.
  • Price Adjustments: Incremental pricing added to individual selections (e.g. +$0.50 for Oat Milk). Adjustments stack onto the item's price at checkout and are captured in analytics.

Keep required groups short and ordered by popularity. Every extra tap during a rush adds up, the fastest checkout is one where the default choice is already first.
