Board Templates
Build a daypart schedule and item list once, then roll it out across many location boards with a live link and per-board overrides.
Board Templates let you define a complete schedule (dayparts and curated items) a single time, then import it onto as many boards as you like. The link stays live: edit the template centrally and every linked board reflects the change, while each board keeps the freedom to override locally.
Templates are under Menu boards → Board templates (or the Templates
button on the boards list). They require menu-boards:view to see and
menu-boards:manage to edit.
Why Templates
Without templates, a ten-location chain means editing breakfast in ten places. With a template, you edit it once and it cascades. Templates are ideal for:
- A standard menu shared across all stores
- Seasonal or promotional schedules rolled out fleet-wide
- A baseline that individual stores tweak slightly (a local special, a different price)
Creating and Editing a Template
Create the template
Choose New template, give it a name and optional description.
Add dayparts
Build the weekly schedule exactly like a board, name, days of week, time range. Overnight windows (start at or after end) do not activate; keep each daypart within one calendar day.
Curate items
For each daypart, add catalog items with optional display-name and price overrides and price points. Sold-out state is live availability on each board, not something you hide from the template; sold-out items always appear with strikethrough and a Sold out label on the public display.
The template editor uses the same unsaved-changes safeguards as boards: a toast with Save / Discard, and a confirmation prompt before switching dayparts or adding a new one while edits are pending.
Linking a Board to a Template
Open a board's Board settings and choose a template in the Schedule template selector. Once linked:
- The board picks up all of the template's dayparts and items.
- Template dayparts appear on the board marked Template, alongside any Local dayparts the board has of its own.
- Central edits to the template flow to the board automatically.
Local Changes on a Linked Board
A linked board isn't locked to the template. Shared content stays live, but each board can diverge where it needs to:

Local changes are reversible. A template daypart that has local edits is badged Overridden, and you can reset it to snap back to the template's values.
Anything you don't change locally keeps tracking the template live.
Changing or Unlinking a Template
Switching a board to a different template, or unlinking it entirely, clears all of that board's override and extra-item rows for the previous template. The board keeps its own local dayparts, but template-derived overrides are discarded. The dashboard warns you before you confirm.
Deleting a template unlinks it from every board that used it: those boards keep their local dayparts but lose the template's dayparts and any overrides tied to it.
Floor staff can mark sold-out from the POS Menu board screen; that live availability stays in sync with the public display regardless of whether the schedule came from a template.
