Creating & Scheduling Boards
Create a board for a location, build its weekly daypart schedule, curate items, and manage live availability.
A Board is a single customer-facing display bound to one location. This page covers creating a board, configuring its settings, building its daypart schedule, curating the items shown in each daypart, and managing live availability.
Boards are under Menu boards. Editing schedule and items requires
menu-boards:manage; marking items sold out requires
menu-boards:set-availability.
Creating a Board
New board
From the Menu boards list, choose New board and select the location it belongs to. Each location can have one board.
Name and slug
Give the board a name and a URL slug. The slug forms
part of the public address (for example /lunch), and is set in board
settings, not taken from the location slug.
Timezone
Set the timezone used to evaluate dayparts. This defaults from the location but can be confirmed here.
Publish state
New boards default to Published on. Turn Published off while you build a draft; unpublished boards stay hidden from the public site. Optionally mark a board Primary, the first board you create is offered as Primary by default, and Primary is served at the organization's main boards URL (no slug in the path).
Board settings
Open Board settings at any time to edit the name, slug, timezone, primary/published flags, and to link a schedule template.
Building the Daypart Schedule
A daypart is a weekly schedule block: a set of days plus a start and end time. Boards display the items of whichever daypart is currently active in the board's timezone.
Add a daypart
Choose Add local daypart, name it (e.g. "Breakfast"), pick the days of the week, and set the time range. Start time must be before end time on the same day.
Select a daypart to edit its items
Click a daypart in the list to open its item editor below.
Order them
Dayparts are evaluated against the current time; keep their windows non-overlapping for predictable results.
Overnight windows (start time at or after end time, e.g. 10pm–2am) do not activate. Split late service into same-day ranges, or use separate dayparts that each stay within one calendar day.
Boards can carry board-local dayparts and dayparts from a linked template at the same time. Local dayparts are perfect for one-off, location-specific service windows.
Curating Items in a Daypart
With a daypart selected, use the item editor to choose exactly what appears and how it's presented:
- Add items: Search the catalog and add inventory items to the daypart.
- Display name override: Show a customer-friendly name without changing the catalog item.
- Price override: Set a board-specific price (e.g. dine-in pricing) that supersedes the catalog/location price for this daypart.
- Price points: Define multiple labeled prices for one item (e.g. Small / Medium / Large). When present, price points replace the single price.
- Reorder: Move items up and down to control their position on the display.
If you leave the editor with unsaved item changes, GreenSails shows a toast with Save or Discard. Switching dayparts or adding a new one while edits are pending also prompts you first, so you never lose work or silently publish a half-finished daypart.
Live Availability (Sold-Out Toggle)
The board detail page includes a Live preview panel showing exactly what the board is rendering right now in its timezone. From here, staff with menu-boards:set-availability can flip an item to sold out:
- Toggling availability fires an immediate update to the public display.
- Sold-out items stay on the menu with strikethrough and a Sold out label; they are never hidden from customers.
- Availability is a live, transient state, it doesn't alter the daypart's curated list.
Floor staff can also mark items sold out from the POS Menu board screen; POS and dashboard stay in sync.
