Menu Boards Overview
Drive customer-facing digital menu displays per location, scheduled by daypart and updated live.
Menu Boards are the customer-facing digital displays for your venues, the screens above the counter that show what's available right now, at the right price, for the current part of the day. Boards pull from your item catalog, follow a weekly daypart schedule, and update in real time as you make changes or mark items sold out.
Menu boards are managed under Menu boards, with reusable schedules under
Board templates. Viewing requires menu-boards:view; editing requires
menu-boards:manage; toggling sold-out state requires
menu-boards:set-availability.
Core Concepts
Board
A display tied to one location, with its own slug, timezone, and published state.
Daypart
A weekly schedule block: days of week plus a time range, e.g. Breakfast Mon–Fri 7–11am.
Curated item
An inventory item placed in a daypart, with optional display-name, price, and price-point overrides.
Template
A reusable set of dayparts and items that many boards can import and override locally.
How a Board Decides What to Show
At any given moment the public display resolves a single active daypart for the board's timezone, then shows that daypart's curated items grouped by category. Sold-out items stay visible with strikethrough and a Sold out label.
Resolve the schedule
GreenSails merges the board's local dayparts with any template it's linked to, applying per-board overrides.
Pick the active daypart
Using the board's timezone and the current day/time, the platform selects the daypart whose window is active right now.
Render items
The active daypart's items are displayed. Sold-out items remain on the board with strikethrough and a Sold out label; they are never hidden.
Update live
Edits, price changes, and availability toggles update the display instantly. No refresh required. Floor staff can also mark sold-out from the POS Menu board screen.
If no daypart is active for the current time, the board shows a tasteful "between services" state instead of an empty screen. See The Public Display.
