POS Terminal Overview

Sign in with a service account, pair a register, enter your PIN, and navigate the floor app, Hub, Order, Recall, Menu Board, and stock counts.

The POS terminal app is what cashiers and managers use on the floor. It is installed on each Base and Satellite register, stays in sync with GreenSails when online, and continues checkout when it is not.

Terminals authenticate with a service account (POS module). Operators identify themselves with a PIN after the device is paired - see Operators.

Startup flow

The terminal signs in with the organization's service account credentials tied to that register. Only dedicated system service accounts are accepted

on the login screen. Not regular staff email addresses.

Select terminal

Choose the set-up register (Base or Satellite) for this device. If the service account is linked to exactly one terminal, the app selects it automatically and continues to PIN entry. Registers that are not set up or have been deactivated cannot proceed.

Enter PIN

The operator types their PIN. The register verifies it on the device so PIN entry works offline.

Hub

Land on the hub to start an order, recall tickets, lock the terminal, run a stock count, or open the cash drawer. Managers on Base tap No shift in the header to open a shift when needed.

The app enforces this sequence on every screen: you must select a register before entering a PIN. Session checks run in the background during normal movement between hub, order, and recall (a brief loading screen appears only if a check takes longer than a moment).

Command bar navigation

Once signed in, the top command bar provides:

LinkPurpose
HubShift status, take-out/delivery entry, satellite orders (Base), lock terminal, recall shortcut, no-sale drawer, stock count
OrderActive checkout workspace
RecallSearch and manage open and historical orders at the location
Menu BoardToggle sold-out items on public displays

The bar also shows:

  • Operator name and terminal name
  • Shift badge: No shift or Shift open (Base: this register; Satellite: any Base shift at the location). Managers on Base tap the badge to open or close a shift.
  • Sync indicator and connection status
  • Theme toggle
  • Settings (gear), managers only; receipt printer, sticky-label printer, and cash drawer pairing
  • Sign out (managers only): end the service account session

See Menu board on POS for floor availability toggles and terminal hardware settings, and Hub & Shifts for shift and drawer actions. For barcodes and sticky labels, see Barcodes & labels.

Lock vs. sign out

  • Lock terminal: From the Hub card Lock terminal. Clears the active operator but keeps the terminal paired. Returns to the PIN screen for the next cashier.
  • Sign out: Ends the service account session, clears local session data, and returns to the login screen. Only managers see this control in the command bar.

If an operator is removed from the organization while signed in (deleted or unassigned from the location), sync clears their session and the app returns to the PIN screen automatically, same outcome as Lock, without manual action.

Session security

If the sign-in session expires, the app automatically clears session state and returns to sign-in. This prevents operators from working with outdated data.

After session expiry, someone must sign the terminal in again, a PIN alone is not sufficient without a valid service account session.
